Each and every summer, I have more and more friends and peers discuss Shakespeare in the Park and the amazing productions it presents. The free admission, the warm weather, the community atmosphere (and did I mention the FREE admission??) are just added bonuses to the already wonderful plays. Now, I have NEVER been to a show, but - mark my words - that is going to change within the next couple months. The Actors' Theatre Company, which heads up the program, uses Shakespeare as its focus, however puts on many classical performances for its local audience. The actors and producers aim to provide the best, quality theatre, while staying true to the plays and their authors. Schiller Park, a treasured area of the German Village community, is and always has been the home of the Shakespeare season.
A summer tradition in Central Ohio for 25 years, Shakespeare in the Park is definitely a must-do for Columbus residents. Chairs and blankets are welcome, as are picnic treats for you and your loved ones or friends. Truly a PERFECT summer outing - I can't wait!
The Three Musketeers is currently showing at 8PM each Thursday through Sunday evening until June 28th. The Actors' Theatre will also perform The Tempest throughout July and As You Like It in August. Go here for more information.
